About Starlight Website Design

I have built websites for over 10 years but as a business for 9 years.  I am the sole web designer who has built all types of websites over the years.  I have built HTML websites using Adobe Dreamweaver and I have built websites using the Content Management System (CMS) with both WordPress and a similar yet powerful Joomla!.

I have decided in the last several years that it is much better to be an expert in one or two software programs rather than attempting to be an expert in many.  I have decided to build websites with just two systems and they are Joomla! and WIX.

First of all Joomla! is similar to WordPress in that both are considered to be content management systems and both are capable of building great looking and highly functioning websites.

WIX is one of the highest rated web builders available.  WIX reported recently they had 109 million registered users with about 45,000 new users joining every day.  Among the users, WIX has over 2.87 million paying subscribers.

Both Joomla! and WIX has advantages and disadvantages over the other but all in all it boils down to a matter of choice.

If you need to make content changes, I believe both Joomla! and WIX will allow you to do that with little training or experience.

If you would like to take a more "hands on" in the designing of your website, then, I would recommend WIX.

Since March 2007, over 30 million copies of the Joomla software have been downloaded according to Joomla.org .  Joomla is the world's most popular full-featured Content Management System and powers approximately 2.7% of the 1,000,000 largest websites in the world.  These websites are in a variety of fields, such as education, arts, media, sports, business, science, technology, and health.

This is a list of just some of the most popular websites using Joomla: Harvard University - The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, The Alliance for Catholic Education - University of Notre Dame, The Hill - A Congressional Newspaper, Linux - An Online Community for a very popular server software, IT Wire - A technology website for top-line Internet and Technology News, Guggenheim - An Internationally renowned Art Museum, MTV Greece - The Greek version of MTV, The Fashion Spot - A fashion-centric online community, United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe UNRIC

Like WordPress, Joomla can be downloaded and installed free and there are periodic free updates for the software.  There are also many free and commercial extensions that can enhance Joomla's capabilities.

After I install Joomla, I have a list of third party extensions that I install which are also updated periodically to improve the website's security as well as improvements in the extensions.

Some of the extensions I install include a third party editor to make the experience of updating or editing your website much like using a word processing program such as Microsoft Word.  Another extension that I install is the Akeeba Backup software package which allows your website to be backed up protecting your website in the rare occurrence of a malware attack or repair a broken website.

All of the websites that you will see in my Recent Work have all been built with the latest version of Joomla 3.
